Processing more than 1 300 000 tonnes of fish annually, our job is complex, yet easy. Making sure that not a gram goes to waste, but brought to use in the best way possible.

How is circularity in the core of Pelagia’s business?
At Pelagia, use of raw materials across our business divisions is key to our model. The benefit of our various departments is their ability to optimally utilize these materials.
In practice, all activities are linked to optimize the best use of the raw material we purchase.
Pelagia ensures that no raw material goes to waste by cooperating across our departments and utilizing every gram of fish we purchase.
Pelagia Services handle byproducts from aquaculture and fish processing industry and uses the byproducts in our production as raw materials.

What does Pelagia Food do?
In our food factories we are producing fish products with a varying degree of processing. We are producing different products such as whole fish, fillets and roe to name a few.

What happens to the co-products?
In our food factories, production of fish products results in co-products alongside the finished products. The co-products are sent to our feed factories to be used as a raw material in the production, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

What does Pelagia Feed do?
Pelagia Feed can be divided to two types of production, we call these the white and the red production lines.

Production line White

What does the white production line make?
The white production line makes fish meal, fish oil and fish protein concentrate from both wild caught fish not suitable for human consumption and co-products from fish processing.
How can you use the products?
The fish meal, fish oil and fish protein concentrate are widely used as a feed ingredient for fish farming or agriculture.

Production line Red

What does Pelagia’s red production line make?
The red production line creates fish meal, fish oil and fishprotein concentrate from raw material from fish processing industry and aquaculture. The finished products are used as ingredients in different food production systems.
The raw material that’s not suitable for feed ingredients, is used in the production of technical oil, carbon neutral fuel oil or to produce biogas.

How do you collect the raw material?
The raw material are either collected from the aquaculture facilities using Pelagia own vessels or from fish processing facilities using trucks.

What does Pelagia Health do?
At the Health division, we create high-potency nutritional ingredients from fishery by-products , specializing in Omega-3 concentrates, under the brand name Epax®.
Our ingredients are trusted by leading consumer brands world-wide, and the finished product, premium quality dietary supplements and pharmaceuticals, are sold to people everywhere.

What happens to the left-overs from the production?
At Health, there are no left-overs. The fractions not used for human nutrition are utilized in other valuable applications like animal feed, biogas or fertilizer at local farms. The circularity for our biomaterials is 97%, and this compares to a global average circularity (for all industries) of just 7.2%
And with that usage cycle completed, 100% of the fish has been utilized.
